There’s a rumour that some real summer weather is on the way, so why not take a walk up Mill Lane on a Thursday, have a chat with the volunteers and see for yourself the excellent work carried out over the past thirty years to bring Oldland Mill to the condition it is in now?

I hope you will have enjoyed watching Ditchling Morris performing at the mill in June and July; the visitors who did join us thoroughly enjoyed the dancing followed by a nice cup of tea and home made cake.  What a wonderful setting for this event!  Hopefully we will enjoy Morris Dancing at the mill again next year.

Dates for your diary

Our last Event Day, with a ‘Family Fun’ theme will be on Sunday, 1st September, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and the remaining Open Afternoon will be on 6th October, 2 – 5 p.m.  A free shuttle bus will run from the Thatched Inn, Ockley Lane, via Age Concern, Dale Avenue, on 1st September as there is no parking at the mill.  As always, refreshments will be available.

Maintenance and restoration

The refurbishment of sweeps 2 and 4 was completed in record time (thanks to the volunteers who responded to our appeal in Talk About) and were rehung on 3rd July, completing the sweep refurbishment.  We will not be seeking your help in that department again until 2018!  Work is progressing on the flour dresser and the leg safety switches on the cherry picker have been completely renewed.
